Pittsburgh Pirates Bloggers

Eat, Sleep, MLB

An MLB blog featuring the Pittsburgh Pirates. Well written, creative, and extremely entertaining.

Opening Day Predictions

Well it's still not opening day quite yet, but close enough to talk about it. Let's just run through some interesting series' that are going to be played starting Sunday.

    vs.

3 More Days

Well we are officially 3 days away from Opening Night. I can't stand it anymore. The ridiculous preseason fantasy team debates and comparisons have been past entertaining and fully into annoying for 2 weeks now, and I am ready for the real thing to start so we can argue about real numbers instead of projections... I mean dang. The Pirates named Craig Monroe, Donnie Veal, Craig Hansen, and TJ Beam to their active roster today, all good things in my eyes. I don't know how long Monroe will stay there though, I mean the Pirates are so loaded with outfielders in AAA and on the big league club that I don't really see much need for him a month or two into the season. I'll be pretty upset if the Pirates hold McCutchen in the minors past mid-June.

4 Days Away

Alright well opening night is now only 4 nights away. This has been a very long 3 days and I am sure the next 4 days will be even longer. I am tired of waiting, and can not wait for the season to begin. The Pirates have begun looking like the Pirates, while tailing off as they near the end of spring training. However, they have played more games than most teams, so I am sure the players are just ready for the real thing and will come into the regular season focused and ready to play. Pirates news came out earlier today, Jeff Karstens was named the number 5 starter. This is favorable to me, although I think Karstens will probably not very well at all in the spot, I'd rather see him there then Vasquez, as I have repeatedly said.

N.L West Preview

Well it seems like everything in NL West is extremely close. This division is a perennial race to the last week of the season, where one team comes out on top by a half game or something of that nature. Expect more of the same this year, I don't see any teams winning more than 93(ish) games.

The Pirates 5th Starter

Alright so the race is heating up for the Pirates 5th spot in the rotation. The two battling for the job in spring training are Jeff Karstens and Virgil Vasquez. Neither of these guys have been fairing well in camp.

Karstens had a great stretch with the Pirates last summer, he had a series of great starts, including one near no hitter, but then fell apart late in the year. He finished 2-6 with a 4.03 ERA. Now that ERA is completely acceptable for a 5th starter (for the Pirates at least), but there is no signs that say he will be able to replicate it.

New Name?

Hey guys I am thinking about renaming my blog. I'm not going to make a new one to change the URL, but just the name. I am struggling to find a good name though. I definitely want to make it something clever dealing with the Pirates. Right now I have an idea but it's a Veggie Tales reference from my childhood and I really don't think many people would get it... leave comments with ideas, please!

The Number 39

Alright well first off I'd like to express my anger about the Missouri loss today. They played Uconn well, but just got outmatched in the end. This kind of put a sour taste in my mouth. After that, Pitt lost, so I lost 2 of my final 4 tonight. However, the Pitt loss was probably more good news than bad news for me. Living in Pittsburgh, most people in the polls I am had Pitt winning it all. There is a very small amount of people who had them losing before now, so it's really not a bad thing. The Missouri loss hurt me a lot though, because a large amount of people had Uconn. I have to be perfect from here on out to have a shot. That means I need Louisville and Oklahoma to win their next 2 games and then face off in the championship, where I need Louisville to win.

N.L. Central Preview

Alright let's go to my second divisional preview for the ever so fastly approaching 2009 season. Here is the N.L. East Preview just in case you missed it.

Hitting

Pain.

  1. Kansas Lost.
  2. The Pirates Lost.
  3. My Throat Hurts.
  4. I Have To Work Early Tomorrow.

All reason I am not in a very happy mood right now.

However, I'm the kind of guy who likes to look at the positives. So let's try it again.

Just quick posting to say

LET'S GO JAYHAWKS!

Have a nice day :)

N.L. East Preview

Alright well we are only 10 days away from opening night, so I figured now is a great chance to start my divisional previews. Since I'm a national league guy, we'll start right at the top with the National League East. I will rank the teams in 3 categories, hitting, pitching, and peripherals (if you will). Let's get to it.

11 Days Away

Alright we are now only 11 days away from opening night, when the Philadelphia Phillies begin their quest to defend their championship against the Atlanta Braves. As we approach the final week of spring training, the every day big league hitters are really starting to gear up and really start swinging the bats. I'm looking forward to looking around the league to see what happens in this last week of spring training, but I am even more looking forward to the end of spring training. It's been going on forever, let's get to the regular season already! Anyways, let's get to some Pirates news.

A Trip Around MLBlogs

Alright tonight I will be taking a trip around mlblogs.com and clicking on various blogs, then writing a couple sentences. I'll probably do between 5 and 10, and I'll just click on the most recently updated blogs. I'll leave links and comments on all of their blogs to let them know they've been featured on the ever prestigious EAT, SLEEP, MLB. Here we go!

Pirates vs. Reds

Alright well the Pirate had a rare spring bad game today. They got trounced by the Reds 6-0, and only collected 2 hits. Those hits came off the bats of Nate McLouth and Craig Monroe. Ian Snell started the game and did not look good. He pitched 4.1 innings, surrendering 6 earned runs on 9 hits and walking 2. Snell looked great through the World Baseball Classic, which made the Pirates staff look a lot better, but outings like today's make me nervous. Who knows what caused it, I just hope he returns to WBC form by April, although it's unlikely. It was more likely a fluke in the WBC then being a fluke today. He's just not that great of a pitcher anymore, but he does have the arm to rebound and become a solid starter for the Pirates.

March Madness - MLB Style - Final Round

#1 Yankees vs. #3 Rays

Alright well it's the final in the stupidest tournament ever made. One of my least favorite teams against one of my favorite teams. Two teams that win in different ways. The Yankees win by throwing money all over hell, and the Rays win by drafting well and developing talent to fill it's big league squad. The Rays have done an amazing job over the last 5 years to assemble the club they have now. The sky is the limit for this team, if all things work out well, they will be a significantly better than last year's team, which won the AL championship. I love the Rays, there are really no weak spots on this roster.
