Return of Mystique & Aura…or Mere Coincidences?

Yankees Baseball - The Golden Years

I’m the type of person who takes notice of odd phenomena and interesting coincidences. Yesterday the Mets/Red Sox game had a 63 minute rain delay; yet, the Yankees played right through without a problem (a bit of rain, but no problem). In fact, there was some doubt that the game would be played to begin with. I believe the gods smiled upon us by sending the rain over to Queens while the Yankees played without a hitch.

Now speaking of coincidences, new Major League ballparks are built very rarely. Yet, the Yankees and the Mets open new ballparks the very same year. I know the Yankees had been discussing plans for this new ballpark since at least April of 1996, but the first time I heard about the Mets plans was when the Yankees made a move towards its fruition. Maybe the Mets had the idea first (although I seriously doubt it), but my impression is that they are mere copycats. I feel confident that the Mets would not have built their new ballpark quite yet if the Yankees hadn’t initiated the move.

Now even if the simultaneous building of the ballparks is coincidental, I’m a bit irked that the Mets exhibition games were scheduled on the same days as the Yankees (no matter how practical it was). This seems a bit odd considering how unusual it is that both ballparks were created simultaneously as well. Taking this a bit further, of all teams for the Mets to play, they wind up playing the Red Sox. So the Yankees open their new ballpark, and who is competing with them for attention? The Red Sox and the Mets. Is this also merely coincidental? It might be, but I don’t like the looks of it. I believe the Yankees’ intentions are honest, but I just don’t trust the Mets and the Red Sox. I truly believe they will do everything in their power to sabotage the Yankees, and what better way to interfere with the opening of our new ballpark by grabbing some the spotlight for themselves.

I like to think the gods don’t like the looks of these Mets/Red Sox “coincidences,” either. The way the balls have been flying out of our new cathedral, with both foul poles being hit in the very first game (an odd coincidence), maybe that special Mystique is back. It appears those years when we’ve won the World Series, Mystique and Aura made regular appearances at the games. I like to think those expensive seats that weren’t sold are actually being occupied by Ruth, DiMaggio, Mantle, Gehrig, and other Yankees Greats, as well as Mystique and Aura. Old Stadium, new stadium, it doesn’t matter. When this group is in attendance, you know you’re in for an incredible year.
