Notes From Game 79

One of the things that kept the Yankees hot in late May and early June was the fact that they went nearly 40 days without losing back-to-back games. And after a loss last night, the Yankees refused to lose and bounced right back in this Friday matinee.
A.J. Burnett was lights out through seven innings. He allowed just two runs, six hits, and two walks, and he struck out seven. Burnett’s first three strikeouts came on 96 mph. fastballs, and his last four came on sharp curveballs in the low 80’s. Over his last four starts, Burnett has an ERA of 1.00. It could be argued that he has been the most effective pitcher on the staff this year.
On the offensive side, the Yankees scored just four runs, but it was enough. Robinson Cano and Alex Rodriguez hit solo home runs, which proved to be the difference.
The Yanks are now 46-33 on the year and have won eight of nine. However, the Yankees must face Roy Halladay tomorrow, who has always seemed to be their kryptonite.
